ABOUT ME

Why Athletic Therapy?

My interest and participation in sports as a young person created a desire to pursue a career which involved working with athletes. This led me to the University of Waterloo where I graduated with a degree in Honours Kinesiology. My passion for Athletic Therapy began when I volunteered as a student therapist for the University of Waterloo men’s baseball team during my graduating year. I enrolled in the Sports Athletic Therapy program at Sheridan College and I have had placements which involved several different sports. During my placement at Appleby College in Oakville I was the student therapist for their soccer, basketball, and men’s rugby teams. At the University of Guelph I was the student therapist for the men’s and women’s wrestling teams and was fortunate enough to travel to Winnipeg for the U Sports Wrestling Championships. During these placements I treated injuries before, during and after the events.
This fall I had the great opportunity to intern with the Toronto Raptors Basketball Team working with outstanding Athletic, Physical, and Massage therapists.

Throughout my Athletic Therapy experience I have learned numerous injury prevention skills, participated in many on field immediate care situations, and developed rehabilitation techniques from many of my supervisors at my placements and professors at Sheridan College.  I have learned what it takes to work and be an athletic therapist at a professional level from the Head athletic therapist for the Raptors Scott McCullough. I have also learned the business side on how to run a clinic and gained significant clinic knowledge from the owner of Apple Creek Sports Medicine, Stephanie Moser.

My career aspirations as an Athletic Therapist include working with elite athletes at the professional level.
